quote:

Putin is an autocrat who rules his country with an iron fist. He is corrupt. He controls information through state media and suppresses free speech. He has invaded a neighboring country that voted for independence over 30 years ago (with over 90% of the vote) and has a democratically elected government.

Agree.

There is no good way to spin this, no matter what the Putin fanboys will tell you.

I'm no Putin fan, but there is absolutely a potential bright side here. I hate America World Police. I hate that we feel we have the obligation or even right to have our bases and troops scattered across the globe when no other country is permitted to do this. NATO is a fiction. The US is NATO. It's our money, our equipment, our troops with all the rest tagging along for the ride. Europe has not adequately invested in their own militaries. They rely on you and I, the American taxpayers, to protect them by projecting force from across the ocean.

Russia's irredentist gambles may just be the catalyst that wakes Europe up from the fading dream of the Pax Americana, causing Europeans to start worrying about the real world instead of trans rights and how many third world transplants they can squeeze into their borders. Europe has been too liberal for too long, and Russia may just be the spark that shocks them back to reality.
