My 16 Silverado went out due to crappy torque converter gm used. This is according to every shop I called. From what I understand that issue was corrected by 2018 with the 8 speed transmission but the fluid they used can’t handle the heat of the 8 speed. A buddy of mine has the same truck and I believe the dealership upgraded the fluid at no charge.

Btw, the dealership wanted around $5200 to replace mine and offered a lifetime warranty. I asked why the original didn’t have the same warranty and got crickets. I wound up having it done at a local shop for $3500 and they used a better torque converter. The Chevy dealership was going to put the same pos back in there.

My dads 2018 had issues and the dealership did multiple flushes and changed the type of fluid...so far so good.

It is a known problem. I believe there is a service bulletin about it.
