I guess you can’t hate the guy for asking but you certainly aren’t a dick for saying no.
McDonalds made over a billion dollar increase in sales by asking if you’d like to super size your meal to large fries and a drink. It works. Sales 101

It was awkard as hell, he didn't ask if I wanted to leave one...he asked how much would I like to add.

That's different, in one scenario your getting more awesome fries, in the other situation it means I pay more for nothing and it goes to a person just doing the job they're already paid to do. When I bagged groceries as a teen, if someone wanted to tip great, if they didn't I sure didn't ask. If someone wants to ask "IF you'd like to tip" that'd be better "How much would you like to tip" is pushy and kinda rude
