It's Jay's evaluation, not just mine.
Gio was 3 for 6 with a double and a HR, a walk, and no Ks.
Duggas was 2 for 6 with 2 singles, a K, and no BBs.
Duggas didn't have a "bad" weekend. But on a team this deep, his spot right now is 7th or 8th when he plays. And he will continue to play of course, but guys are right on his heels for time.

Gio has no history to suggest he's going to do better than Dugas. Gio also didn't light it up in the fall and spring, and neither did Thompson, and Thompson continued to not swing it very well this weekend. Then, of course, there is Milazzo. Sorry, I'm not going to question much with Jay Johnson, but there is no way Dugas should be batting any lower than 6th. Merrifield hit the ball well, but he also was just punching singles around, so why should he bat ahead of a guy who we know has power?
I am aware of our depth, and it's great, but there just isn't a legitimate case to be made for Dugas to bat 8th. Clearly, if Gio didn't even start the first two games, Jay doesn't think he's is better than Dugas. Maybe he thinks he's sending some weird message; I don't know. Again, I just thought it was silly. It doesn't matter right now, but going forward, I hope that doesn't continue.
