Hitting and Homeruns is not the same.Just because Crews is my favorite and who I would pick as my favorite hitter doesn’t mean I should just ignore stats and the fact the coach thinks Morgan is the best hitter and best at getting on base.If the question was who would you want at the plate with 2 outs bottom of the ninth with the game tied it be Crews and Berry.Hitting is not just simply power

Power is one of the 5 tools. It’s on equal footing with average. It’s actually become more important based on metrics.

Morgan .390/449/561 in SEC play last year
You just want something to argue about.Saying Morgan is the best pure hitter on the team when the coach says it himself, and his stats support it is not crazy. You guys arguing about it like something outlandish was stated is what’s crazy. You can literally put 1-4 in any order and never be totally wrong

Morgan is the best average guy. Doesn’t make him the best overall hitter. That’s okay. I’m not arguing with anyone. You’re just triggered for no reason.

I mean I’d have crews first. Morgan has elite bat to ball though. Was LSU’s best hitter in SEC play last year after Dugas
1.010 OPS vs say .740 or whatever Doughty had in conference is the difference between one of the best hitters in the league & league-average
Don't get me wrong, Morgan is a great hitter.
But Crews and Berry shouldn't even be in college.

Prior to the season, Jay was telling people that Doughty was the best unknown in college and it wasn’t close. He thought he was the best player through the fall.
Posted on 2/20/22 at 7:06 pm to ell_13
Doughty would be the best hitter on a lot of good teams.

Raph Rhymes is the best hitter in LSU history obviously.

People acting like saying Morgan is the 4th best hitter in this lineup is some sort of insult. The 4th best hitter in this lineup is still going to be a top 20 hitter in the nation.

I'd have him third, but he and Doughty are right there.
Tier 1: Crews, Berry
Tier 2: Morgan, Doughty
Tier 3: Pretty much everyone else who started this weekend besides Milazzo

imo the best hitter is the one with the most total bases including runners he advances as a result of the at bat(s)
don't know if baseball keeps such a stat and don't know who that is/was for LSU

It's called slugging percentage.

not an rbi if they don't score
and slugging percentage is only:
"Slugging percentage represents the total number of bases a player records per at-bat. Unlike on-base percentage, slugging percentage deals only with hits and does not include walks and hit-by-pitches in its equation. Slugging percentage differs from batting average in that all hits are not valued equally."
additionally I don't see that it includes advancement of other base runners?

So you want a single that advances a runner from first to second to count the same as a single that advances a runner from third to home?
And you also want both of those to be worth more than a leadoff double?

I tried to be honest about it. Thompson, no matter how you slice it is out 9th best hitter. The all SEC freshman SS is our “worst” hitter out of the top 9.
The catcher position is the obvious answer. If we get a .250 BA out of the collective group, run to the bank with that.
Posted on 2/20/22 at 7:50 pm to dmatt2021
You are correct. Morgan is the best pure hitter on this team.
Posted on 2/20/22 at 7:54 pm to SoloTiger
He’s the best contact hitter. No argument here. Makes him a perfect leadoff. Which is another knock on the previous leadership… but I digress.
Overall hitting includes power. And you have guys that hit for contact too. I still stand by my list. No one has really convinced me otherwise.
