Spring is almost here and the fishing is heating up. If you've ever thought about visiting North Georgia, check out the Georgia Wild Trout article on Where to Find Trout in North Georgia. If you would also like to learn more, check out our other articles on fly fishing, trout fishing, and striper fishing in North Georgia.

How is it compared to the trout fishery in Arkansas?

My brother lives in Dahlonega. I get to enjoy some fishing up there every now and then.

I had a blast fishing there last April, staying in the Blue Ridge/Ellijay area. It was tough for a novice like me though. Lots of areas with plenty fish, but smarter than I was apparently. After a few days of bouncing around a ton of places (so many places to fish there), I finally got on a bunch.
That was my first time up there and can't wait to get back up there. Beautiful

We went to Wolf Mountain Vineyards in Dahlonega on probably the best weather day imaginable for it. My wife enjoyed that so much, it more than made up for me bouncing around creeks looking for fish.

Next time in Dahlonega bring a gold pan with you to that creek.

Do y'all have any recommendations for a good tent camping area in a wilderness park area next to some smaller rivers / streams to fish with a 3wt?

I would recommend Burrell's Ford Campground in extreme NE GA on the SC border. They stock the shite out of it with rainbows and browns, and there are plenty of bigger trout that are year-over-year holdovers. There are even wild ones there, born in the streams from stockers, both brown and rainbows.
Also nearby is West Fork Chattooga campground, although it's very limited campsites. Good luck finding a camp site on a weekend there. But that's a great 3wt section.
Also nearby is Sarah's Creek campground. I haven't personally been to that one, but it is highly regarded by my peers.
Another great option is camping from the Hwy 28 Delayed Harvest section access point on the Chattooga, there's a field on the river that people camp at. From Oct31 to mid-May, it's catch and release only in this section, single hook only, no artificial. AKA fly-fishing. But technically you could use a spincast as long as your lure has only a single hook, no trebles. Some people use split shot and tie on nymphs and WB's etc but you can be assured you'll get dirty looks and a likely LE check. If you so much as possess a treble hook or a can of salmon eggs deep down in the bottom of your tackle bag, you will be cited.
If you are looking for more north central or north west GA, I can't help you. All of my experience is around NE GA.

There are a ton of options in Georgia compared to Arkansas. You can either float or wade a bigger river in AR. In North GA you can find fish in 3' mountain creeks or in tailwaters.
If you know what you are doing with a streamer, AR is unbeatable for browns. GA can offer a little more nuance with much better scenery.

Wolf Mountain is an awesome spot. There are a few more vineyards in that area as well. A couple of which you can find some trout on.

Upper Mountaintown Creek, Noontootla Creek, Upper Chattahoochee, Upper Dicks Creek, Rock Creek, and Fightingtown Creek all have good wild trout populations that will do great on a 3wt.

Couldn't tell you the name as I have no idea. Off the side of dirt road hill. Caught some solid browns and small rainbows. Had a black bear pop out the the trail behind us as we walked back to the truck.

That's awesome, i'd still put money on the toot. Even though there's plenty of black bears around theyre very uncommon to see unless their the trash bears coming into town each night.
