Early American Football resembled rugby more than the game you see today. Players played both ways and downs between plays were a brand new concept.

Yes, indeed so.

Just like Rugby today, there was very limited Substitution allowed - you could substitute for an injured player. The Eleven stayed on the field for the whole 60 minutes.

Some enterprising college men of today should figure out the 1905 Rules of American Football and start a league to play games under that rule. There must be some way to see the game as it was at that time and still preserve player safety.

I think that people would enjoy watching some amateur 1905 Foot-Ball.
