I read an article last year how a distribution center with robots helping to fill the orders was 10 times faster than the human shoppers going up and down aisles in a regular store to fill the online pickup orders. I wouldn't be surprised if the long term goal is to shift more and more customers to delivery/pickup.

I disagree. The whole point is to get customers in stores to buy things that aren't on their shopping lists. Impulse shopping is huge for profit margins.
