I’ll respond to you on this since I figured you’d take it the best, just want to share a true story on the subject, not arguing the point, just trying to tell the other side a little bit.

About 20 years ago I was riding a crew boat to a platform and there was an Alabama boy loudly going on and on to anybody that would listen incessantly complaining about all the coonasses ransacking his town, screwing all their women, shooting all their deer, blah blah blah. I said wait a minute, where are you right now? He said I’m working, I said why here? He said because the mill closed , no way to make money back home. To shorten the story I’ll summarize the rest. I said so you come down here the day before, stay in hotel, visit a local bar, occasionally make some head way with a local girl, work your 7 or 14 on, go home with money for the family all thanks to our resources. I also see plenty of your boats down here in the summer additionally enjoying our resources. Also, if the mill’s closed who’s pumping millions of dollars a year helping to keep your town alive? Sounds like a hell of a deal to me.

Of course he couldn’t continue with his argument and it turned into the ole whatever, F you face, but that was the last I heard from him. Did it help? Probably not with him, but everybody else seemed to get something out of it

You can really tell the difference between the Rapides and south western end of Catahoula Lake and the north old river/French Fork LaSalle area. Those self proclaimed cajun baws come up from Avoyelles and thats where you hear about the wild stories from the lake from. Granted a lot are good baws.
