2. When they finally were able to sign with another label their manager embezzled their advance money and disappeared, effectively stonewalling their ability to record and release music.

In the '80s Badfinger records were virtually impossible to get ahold of (unless you got used copies), as their legal problems prevented reissues. IIRC Badfinger won several polls in Goldmine magazine for "Records We'd Like To See Reissued"

Considering all that, it's not surprising they aren't as famous as they should be.
