You can find great subscription prices to start, but after a few months they slyly increase the price on you. Then you have to contact them and threaten to cancel to get a decent compromise monthly price.
Not worth the hassle.
To me, they don't do any better job of covering LSU, the Saints or the SEC than you can find from the Advocate and ESPN. So really you're paying for the national coverage and columns, and I just don't think it's worth it.
It's also a joke that they claim to have one million subscribers. They probably don't have anywhere near half of that. The two guys who owned it were Silicon Valley types who are into flipping internet startups. They were looking for someone to bail them out for months. I can't believe the NY Times is going to actually pay $550 million. Once the NY Times looks at their actual books, they'll realize it's just not worth it.
