Buying a home that was in the building process when Ida hit. Looking for a recommendation for a thorough home inspector in the Houma/Thibodaux area. Also any recommendations on what I can look for on my own. Thanks

what stage was it in the night of hurricane?

open frame? walls and roof installed? plumbing and electrical?

i can tell you a home inspector is just a waste of money because they just look around with a flash light and most dont even have a clue if they see a problem that it is even a problem. every time i came do work after an inspection guys report, half the report didnt even match the house such as gas heater is bad, but it was a brand new 3 yr old electric heater, then i find holes in attic i can stick my hand out and wave at you in the yard. then while charging the a/c unit i see missing shingles everywhere on the roof that wasnt even in the report.

i used to think inspectors had to be of some use but after years working behind them i doubt if they even get out of their cars with half the shite they put in those reports.

As a few realtors in your area. There’s typically the inspector they call when they’re the buying agent and the inspector they hope for when they’re the selling agent. Some inspectors are crazy thorough and others don’t have a clue. Find out who that thorough inspector is.

A few other options are to hire a general contractor and just offer to pay him a few hundred dollars or call the parish inspector and see if they’ll do a walk through with you.

It was actually bricked, shingle roof was on, no fascia/ soffit. Mainly concerned about the roof, just upon looking in the attic from ground level in the patio (still open for T&G pine) I noticed the decking is all OSB except for 4 random sheets that are plywood. Builder is not very transparent when asked questions... Just was thinking it was worth getting a home inspector for 5-600$ on a 300+k home

I used Carl Heck out of Houma. He did a solid job and gave me a good list of fixes to start with. Not at all expensive and in my mind worth the money.
