Was this like 25 years ago? The cops aren't going to care about following up in shoplifting case and even if they did, the chance of any real punishment is slim.

You're backwards there bud. It's higher today than 10 years ago, by far. Technology has made it infinitely easier to find them. Now penalty-wise, they are absolutely not punished harshly enough. I'm on the same side as most of you on how shitty theft is and how frustrating it us that they get wrist slaps. That doesn't change the fact that it's stupid to chase someone stealing shite, most of them have nothing to lose, I do.
