The idea of just collecting/building clean looking model railcars and towns doesn't appeal to me, really. However, when you look at some of the really good weathered, aged, and tagged cars and town scenes, that is pretty cool.
If I started doing it, it would be with an eye towards that end. You could incorporate both collecting and model building/painting and really broaden the hobby. Plus, who has ever seen a clean-looking boxcar?
