Funny, was just talking about this with my son(LSU freshman). "Putting up a fence" around Louisiana isn't about chasing the 4-5 star recruits that everyone wants. You take the solid 3 star guys and it builds a pipeline to those schools. Players from those schools are more likely to follow friends from that school. The HS coaches appreciate that you show interest in their players beyond just the ones that the whole country wants, which gives you an edge with those future 4-5 stars. And, the obvious that has already been stated, those players are less likely to transfer once they are here and will play with more pride for the home team.

It just makes too much sense.

It mostly is, though.

These kind of threads are mostly about feels and little about facts.

2019 was not won with 3 stars.

National championships in general are not won with 3-star players. The correlation between the amount of blue-chip players on a team and the likelihood for winning national championships has been repeatedly established. More stars generally means more trophies.

Pipelines are mostly a myth. You cannot take all of the Louisiana 3-star players. So what does the HS coach think when LSU fails to offer his current 3 star? Moreover, you'll be hard pressed to find a player whose primary consideration for choosing a team is whether they have a HS teammate on the team.

Five LSU WRs are in the transfer portal. Three are from Louisiana.
