I have been re-watching (for about the 10th time) Cheers, and just made it to the finale. I'm a full grown man, but it still has an impact on me. I think shows like this were an "EVENT" back before everyone had DVR and streaming
The true events were earlier: MASH, Who Shot JR? (not a finale I know), and my own all time favorite show, the finale of which was the most watched series episode in history until JR got shot:

I was bartending in college when Seinfeld ended. All the regulars came in to watch on the regular-sized crt tv up on the wall and we unplugged the jukebox so everyone could focus on the show. That’s as close to an “event” episode as I’ve ever seen.
I’d imagine the Cheers finale was similar, though I was a kid watching that one at home.
