I got letters from Synchrony Bank in Feb. 2019 saying thank you for applying for a Sam’s credit card and thank you for applying for a Wal-Mart card, I had not applied for either. I called and their information showed I had applied, was approved and the cards were in the mail.
Our mail had been stolen from our mailbox and the people who stole it had applied for cards with Synchrony Bank, Capitol One, Bank of America and they’d done it in less than 5 days time.
I’d recommend you call one or all 3 of the credit bureaus, Equifax, Experian or TransUnion, tell them you suspect you may be a victim of credit fraud. They can look at all your credit history and will be able to tell you if any credit has been issued recently in your name.
I ended up having them lock my credit because someone had actually stolen our tax W-2’s and other information. We were able to stop the cards that were applied for in our names and having the bureaus lock your credit prevents anyone but you from being able to apply for credit using your SS number and information. They will issue you a Personal Identification number and when you need to apply for credit, you call them and have your credit history unlocked for 2-3 days so the credit you are applying for can be approved. Mine will never be unlocked again and after the nightmare we went through, I recommend everyone consider locking their credit,

Just checked my credit reports and they look fine. No unusual inquiries. Very mysterious.
