The one thing you don’t want to hear when granny and pappy are dead is “imagine there’s no heaven.”

I am a long time Beatles and Lennon fan. John Lennon wrote lots of songs about lots of things. Imagine was hailed by the left as a Utopian wet dream, but after all is said and done it really is just another song.

That said, I went to a funeral for a friend some years back and they actually played that inside of a Methodist church at her funeral. To each their own, but it struck me as a bit weird if not outright inappropriate.

Agree. 90% of the best songs out there have wildly intolerable lyrics if you read them literally. Imagine clearly states in the lyrics it a song about imagination and dreaming, in other words....not literal. He's not literally trying to start a revolution to eliminate all nation states, possessions, and religions. It's more of a playful dream about wondering if humans could live without so many of the things that divide us, not saying that we actually can or should attempt to.

The church should have played "Funeral for a Friend."

I remember one where the music included Sunrise/Sunset and Desperado.
