A player has to be an absolute dipshit to spout off to the media like that.
Here's to you Chad Jones: blame everyone but yourself.
Seriously, signalling issues need to be fixed by Mallory/Peveto quick. The last thing a young secondary needs is an undecisive and confusing sideline of coaches.
However, the only thing a player should say to the media is
"We're working on getting it better. It's just some growing pains. That's all. We have the talent, etc.etc.etc."

"I messed up," Jones said. "I was supposed to take the back out, and I came up on the receiver. You see, I was thinking I was playing nickel. But I was supposed to be in the box at linebacker for running back containment. So that's on myself."
He did blame himself, also...a couple of times.

Yep, it's called leadership. I imagine some of his teammates aren't too happy with him right now. Keep this stuff internal and give the standard boring answers to the media.
