With the end of the professional rodeo season wrapping up yesterday, there were some La guys that brought home some gold.

The NFR hosted 4 guys from Louisiana competing in the steer wrestling. Tyler Waguespack from Gonzales finished on top for his 3rd World Championship. Jacob Talley from Keatchie La came into the NFR ranked #1 but couldn’t hold onto it and ended up 3rd in the World Standings. Tristan Martin from Sulphur was 5th and Rowdy Parrot from Mamou was 9th.

Taylor Broussard from Estherwood, La finished 14th in the Bareback standings after having a rough NFR where he battled some injuries.

Cody DeMoss from Heflin La qualified for his 14th NFR in the Saddle Bronc at age 40. Going into the 10th round he wasn’t able to get a score which knocked him out of the average and missing out on a last pay day. He finished 15th in the world for 2021

In the tie down roping, former World Champ Shane Hanchey from Sulphur La had some tough luck in the 10th round where he received a no time. Prior to this he was in the hunt for the title but ended the season ranked 4th.
Justin Smith from Leesville qualified for his 1st NFR would finish 14th in the world with $122k winnings for the year.

In the bull riding Dustin Boquet from Bourg La qualified for his 3 NFR. He was able to win round 4 for a payday of $43k and ended his season ranked 9th in the world standings.

Also this week was the Ultimate Bullfighting Championships at the Cowtown Coliseum in Ft Worth. Knox Dunn from Slaughter La I believe was ranked 4th in the world coming into the week and had a great finals. He was eventually named finals champ which boosted him to a World Championship. Also at the UBF Cross Dunn and the B-K Ranch in Slaughter La was given the honors or being named UBF Stock Contractor of the year.

It was one of best NFRs in a long time. I was really pulling for Shane. With all he’s battled with in the last 3 weeks it was still a good finish. I wish he would at least got a time and finished in the average.

Really was a good one. I think the increased payout each round has helped to make it more competitive.

I had the opportunity to meet and spend time with Tyler’s grandfather, in his time he would of been the king of the outdoor board

This is a fact! I hunted with Tyler’s dad years ago, he was only 7 or 8 years old. Proud of him!

I can't remember a better NFR in terms of round 10 deciding the world champion. I believe it was that way for the bareback, steer wrestling, saddle bronc and barrel racing.

The Wright brothers are unstoppable. They really put on a show.
