1917 is likely your Best Picture winner for 2019

Winning the PGA award for Best Picture, combined with it winning the DGA award last night for Best Director, 1917 seems to have the edge over its closest rivals Parasite and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
What I love about this is that, if it wins, it will have won the good old-fashioned way. It skipped the big film festivals and came out right at Christmas, relying on word of mouth to propel it to Oscar glory. It's a hit with both critics and audiences alike as the film is poised to hit $100 million in the United States if it hasn't already. There were no screeners sent out ahead of time, very little campaigning by the filmmakers and studio, and yet it looks like it's going to win Best Picture in two weeks.

I really think Parasite is going to end up taking it.
Based on the standing ovations it keeps receiving at ceremony after ceremony, I think Hollywood is starting to get a real hard-on for their own support of a foreign language film. The voters seeing that support are going to want to “be a part” of making a Korean film the Oscar winner for best picture and are going to use that social component to marginally move the film forward. And since it is a genuinely good film, and any gap that exists is small, a marginal movement might be enough to put it over the top.

No one cares about these awards since the liberal Hollywood left became so political and anti trump

It's main stumbling block is that it has its own category. Add to the fact that this is a shortened Oscar season and 1917 has won all the major awards to this point, the support might not be as strong as you think it is. You might have been onto something had Bong Joon Ho won Best Director last night at the DGAs. But he didn't.

The awards mean getting more high paying roles, so actors care.
I think you should distinguish between the awards’ Tv telecasts and the awards themselves.

Well yeah the actors care...
No one cares that some fat guy won the lottery in Maine.... except for the fat guy and his family

Off topic but tangential: I've seen nubs on the online tardsphere attack the film as being American nationalism pro-war propaganda, which is hilarious because it is the most effective anti-war film I've ever seen and American representation in the film occurs in passing as a simple technique of narrative sequence progression

Do you tards ever turn it off?
Back on topic, I would be perfectly fine with either 1917 or Parasite winning BP. Both were superb. I might lean more towards Parasite though.

Is mendes up for best director oscar?
If so, they will more than likely split the vote, give mendes the best director while best picture goes to another film.

Joker, parasite, or 1917

1917 would be my first choice. But I wouldn't have a problem with Parasite winning. Sounds like those those are the 2 favorites

Once Upon A Time in Hollywood is my favorite. Those shows hate Tarantino though

Yes. He's up for it and he's now the favorite to win.

If this were true, Parasite would have won at the DGAs or PGAs. I know the actors are the biggest voting group in the academy, and Parasite did win big at the SAGs, but parasite needed another major guild win. I wouldn't call the Editors guild big enough.

1917 is the Best Picture of the year, IMO.

Ugh. I hate that Mendes is going to win for ripping off Nolan again. He’s such a hack.

They do? He’s got a good chance at winning his 3rd Oscar

So you’re just gonna keep going on with this schtick while ignoring everyone else’s praise for this movie? Not to mention the only Oscar Mendes has won was for American Beauty, what a huge Nolan ripoff that was
