I posted this last week and I think it's relevant to our defensive failures yesterday. Giving up scores prior to half & at the end of the game are killing us. This points to a schematic failure.
Going back to the 2010 season and into this season LSU has now allowed scores before halftime or late in 4th in 22 of 59 games. On two occasions LSU has been outscored in the 4th quarter and still won. At this point it's not a trend, but a staple of every season.

Here's the breakdown:
Record in those games: 16-6
Record if the opponent scores at the end of half & at the end of game: 1-4
Record against opponents who finished the year in the Top 25: 5-6.(assuming UGA finishes in top 25).
Total losses:7.
ETA: Record in all other games: 37-1.

Going into SEC play we play 5 teams that could potentially finish in the top 25: UGA (L), UF, Ole Miss, Bama, & A&M. We average roughly 5 games a year of allowing late points and it's happened in 4 games this year.
We can talk about LB's, DB's or how great the offense is, but if we keep spotting teams 7-14 cheap points in 36% of the games we play it will catch up with us in an ugly way. Like happening in 5 games this year ugly.

For the Bama obsessed: it's happened to them 12 times in the same time frame and they are 11-1.

I listed the games we had this happen in below.

2013 – 3-1
TCU (w) – Outscored LSU 10-7 in 4th
UAB (w) – Scored 10 points in last 5 minutes of 1st half.
AUB (w)– 10 plays 88 yds TD 6 minutes left in game. 10 plays 57 yds less than 5 minutes. No Score.
UGA (L) - TD before half. Game winner at the end.

2010: Record 5-2; 1-2 against top 25 finishers
UNC (W) – scored TD at end of 4th to make score 30-24. 13 plays 67 yards.
WVU(W) – scored TD at end of 1st half. 10 plays 53 yds.
UF(W) – 10 plays 80 yards. End of game
AUB (L)– TD with 5 minutes to go in 4th.
BAMA (W)– 9 plays 74 yds TD with just over 2 minutes in the game.
OLE MISS(W) – 9 plays 80 yards TD just over 2 minutes left in 1st half. 5 plays 80 yards under 5 minutes 4th
ARKY(L) – 1 play 80 yards 6 seconds left before half

BAMA – (L) 6 plays 63 yds TD under 1 minute before half. 5 plays 72yds TD under minute in game.
MSU –(W) 9 plays 45 yds FG under 1 minute before half.

I think thats very important information.

Clearly there is something wrong with the scheme in those situations. Maybe Chiefs MO after 20 something years has become too obvious or well known?

Or maybe we just don't have a playmaker that steps up - we did have guys in place to make plays in some of those games - the Clemson game comes to mind - several missed opportunities that final drive to kill it.

I've been suspect of Chavis since the Tebow concussion game. UF held the ball for 36 minutes & we couldn't adjust to stop the "fake pass dive".
IMO, he uses superior athletes to make up for an inadequate scheme.

3rd & Chavis is the symptom. Before I looked into it, i never realized how detrimental it was.
