Scott Woodward’s hire of Brian Kelly is not like his other hires at LSU

The thing that Jay Johnson, Kim Mulkey, and Matt McMahon all have in common that Brian Kelly does not is they all love recruiting. Those three are recruiting junkies even though McMahon era is not starting out the way we want because of the Will Wade mess but he is at least trying unlike what I see from Brian Kelly.
Jay Johnson is out there recruiting his butt off and he was recruiting while they were at Omaha on our championship run. Kim Mulkey is the same age as Brian Kelly and she is always out there recruiting the best players she can get to LSU. Woodward just gave a coach who does not like to recruit and does not understand recruiting in the SEC a 10 year contract and now we are stuck with him for another 8 years.
I knew he was not big on recruiting but I thought at least he would bring in a top staff with his $95M he is getting. This is Woodward’s mess and he needs to get involve and help fix it by contacting and getting better coaches on the defensive side of the ball who can coach and recruit. Also, he needs to make Kelly understand that we are in a NIL world and that is the game we have to play now in recruiting.

If you don’t see the problem, I don’t know what to tell you. We hired Brian Kelly at the worst time when NIL became legal and his first hire after bringing Brian Polian along with him from Notre Dame was Kerry Cooks who is the worst coach on staff the same day we let Corey Raymond go to Florida.

Women’s basketball is a cult of personality sport. Mulkey is a 3x NC coach. one of the greatest ever. combine that with any kind of interest in NIl for WBB and you’ll have insane success.

You are right it is a different animal that everybody wants to eat. That is why you have to have a football coach who is going to put that work in to get the best players and not all this we want graduate of champions crap.

We are stuck with a guy who took us to an SEC championship in year one.
Football is not like the other sports, it is, its own beast. It required a different hire. We will get a new DC this offseason and things will he gravy
