I’m not sure he does make it. He inherited Dugas - Morgan - Crews - Beloso - Thompson. He seems to live on hitting but does not seem to be detail oriented. I think Van Horn & O’Sullivan outcoach him and Corbin.

Didn't he bring in the Top 2 guys from the portal last year?

The way DVH got his guy to hit Milazzo’s glove outside of the box was elite coaching. Also the way he threw his top 2 starters against us with 1-2 games left for Arkansas was something.

Also the fact that Jay brought in the top transfer class and freshmen class is pause for concern, I agree.

Jj is still young. He makes mistakes and is still learning. I think he will be fine. Just gotta keep stacking the roster with talented bats and arm.

I do get this sense as well. We make a lot of really dumb mistakes.

In year 3, no excuses not to have a more well rounded roster

What specifically is your problem with the roster that probably gets a top 4 seed?

If you say the pitching staff without acknowledging the top arms that got hurt you’re being disingenuous.

I would say he is very detail oriented. He is just not detailed oriented with the things that really make the difference. Pitching, base running, defense, and situational hitting are cornerstones to elite teams. Jay believes in home runs and doubles and he will sacrifice almost anything else.

JJ’s approach is like Daly in golf; grip it & rip it.

I give the pitching a pass even though the injuries are a red flag. But the lineup lacks balance. When you factor in defense, speed & bat-to-ball. It just so happens to feature two ‘all-timers’. It is a roster full of DH’s.

Your 1st baseman is playing LF because you have a bunch of guys that cannot play anything other than 1B.

Dugas is playing 2B because you have no 2B.

Jobert is a DH forced to play in the field.

You could prob say Tommy white should not be playing 3B.

Look, it’s good and it’s fun when it’s working, and the juiced balls have been a godsend, but it’s lsu; you can recruit anyone. The roster & philosophy need to be tuned up.

He’s given me no real reason to question his ability to build the talent here. I agree the team isn’t as balanced as you’d like, but it could be better if we wanted to trade offense for defense. We focus on the former, but I don’t see teams running out a better overall lineup/defense very often.
