Would ATM want to play Texas after joining SEC

Probably so,
But if I were ATM, I wouldn't. THis whole SEC thing is a way of telling UT to eff off.
Plus, ATM has a much tougher schedule now, while UT plays 'juggernauts' like BYU and ND.
UT will be independent or the BIG xii's king.....either way makes for a soft schedule with OU being their toughest game.
I have to say that my respect for ATM has risen, while my respect for UT has gone to nothing. UT is a bunch of pussies. They will say that they cannot join the SEC due to academics, when they just don't want their asses beat.

I hear what you're saying but that is a sacred game for most of us. Personally, there is no better day of the year than the day we play Texas. Not sure I'd want to add them to a LSU, Auburn, Bama, Arky etc. schedule however.

A&M will make it very clear that they are willing to play the lonestar showdown. It will be up to Dodds if he wants to be the one that kills the > 100 year tradition.

Right or wrong, the word is that the remaining Big 12 teams from Texas will have a unified front. A&M will never play Texas, Tech or Baylor in the regular season again.

That's the good news. Now tell us the bad news.

Good thing we have scoreboard on all of them then.

And might I add that it is hypocritical for those schools to have canceled annual games with TCU, SMU, Rice, and Houston, and then take issue with a school canceling annual games with Tech and Baylor.

I totally agree that the game is sacred. But UT should have treated their relationship with ATM as a sacred one as well.
I'd still tell UT to eff off.
UT could go undefeated with their 'notre dame-like" schedule, but the computers would not let them play over a Pac12/SEC undefeated team. Strength of schedule would come in too low.
Thus, this is where the respect for ATM comes in for me. They want a challenge, while UT just wants Notre Dame TV money.

I don't think they've done anything that anyone else in their position wouldn't have done. Most of this is just Texas envy. Texas took what others gave. Texas didn't rape and pillage.
quote:Nope. It's just money in both cases. They both want money. Everybody does.

Created instability by flirting with the PAC-10. After A&M wasn't on board Texas decided to keep the Big XII together. To do that they made promises to A&M regarding the TV network. They broke those promises. Many believe A&M will pay no exit fees for that reason.
That's what they've done on top of many other things. The Texas run Big XII is not the place for a team to be if they can get an invite from another BCS conference

It's stability more than money. The money will be nice though

quote:Whose idea was it? Who called whom? (I'm asking because I don't know.) I've always been under the impression that the Pac-10 got on the phone with a bunch of Big 12 schools, and Texas merely picked up the phone and listened, intrigued. If that's how it happened, there's nothing wrong with that.
Created instability by flirting with the PAC-10.
If creating instability is inherently wrong, then Colorado, Nebraska, and Texas A&M are WAY more guilty of this than Texas is. The only action Texas has actually taken regarding conference expansion is saying "No thanks" to the Pac-16.

quote:Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way, but BU/ISU/KU/KSU/Mizz/OU/OSU/A&M/TT are, together, more powerful than Texas. Texas can't do anything to them that those schools don't effectively allow. The fact that Texas gets such a big chunk of the Big 12 pie is specifically because the other schools let it happen. Why don't those schools just say "Equal revenue sharing, or GTFO?"
The Texas run Big XII is not the place for a team to be if they can get an invite from another BCS conference

I agree that UT is doing this for the money. But don't tell me that they are not licking their chops when they schedule OOC games if they are still in the BIG xii.
They will have an easy path to the BCS by playing a depleted BIG xii or as an independent, while ATM will play in the toughest division in college football (Think about it..>LSU, BAMA, Arky, ATM and Auburn....thats more tough teams than in ANY conference, alone)
For that, I do respect ATM....money or not.

quote:No doubt. Texas should just stay put and let everybody else leave. All they need is an eight-team conference to keep the BCS auto-bid. The departure of Colorado, Nebraska, and Texas A&M only makes it easier for Texas (and Oklahoma and OSU) to make it to a BCS game.

You are delusional. The Big 12-2-1 is Texas' conference. All of those other schools (OU being a small exception) are scared of TU and know their future depends on them.
TU is like JR Ewing having some blackmail material on Cliff Barnes.

Texas is the most valuable school in the NCAA currently. A&M leaves and the conference lives. Texas leaves and it's over. The small schools have to do what Texas says.

quote:Doesn't have to be that way. They have the power to kick Texas out if they wanted, and they'd keep their conference together and keep their conference's auto-bid if they want. I don't know why they don't just band together and tell Texas "Our way or the highway."
and know their future depends on them.

For starters no conference games. And Texas/ESPN tried to buy a 2nd tier rights game from Fox Sports and put on the LHN. They are pushing the envelope constantly. There's no trusting them

quote:If Texas leaves, the Big "12" is still better than the Big East and ACC. I don't get this line of thinking. The Big 12 needs to stop fearing the Longhorns.
Texas leaves and it's over.
The thing that is killing the Big 12 is the conference's inordinate fear/respect of Texas, and not the actions of Texas.
