I am sorry Vandy but let's be serious.

If the SEC takes 1-2-3 really good football schools that should only get better when adding SEC to their title, does the SEC then take another school that is essentially a yearly WIN for the better teams in the conference.

Duke would come to mind but I just don't see that happening without a promise of keeping the UNC hoops rivalry going. Tulane would be another of course and they come up just because of the natural reasons. LSU would maybe not allow that though - they might get scared. A friends family member said that the Tulane AD traveled the country trying to raise money for their stadium and the AD also made sure to see a few conference commissioners on his way around town.

What other schools could there be if this were to happen. You figure they will not take a school that is not one of the high academic type (APR and such) because they wouldnt take a school that sucked on the field and didnt help the academic standing either.

If they SEC goes to 16, you figure they gave to take at least one more cupcake.

Unless that school wants to join the SEC and brings a TV Market with high enough Following.

Duke won't leave the ACC. It's a Basketball school attached to the UNC rivalry. Also with Their Academic prestige they don't want to join a conference of lesser academic standards.

I'd think Baylor if anything but I still don't think Baylor would be asked.

yea, forgot about Baylor. I know we are supposed to be taking aTm but I never thought of Baylor, I too do not think they would be asked.

If the SEC wanted or needed to take one it would come down to Baylor, Duke (i agree they wont leave), Tulane and maybe Virginia?

Tulane doesn't offer anything. Louisiana already is run by LSU. Tulane may be in New Orleans but how many of those people watch Tulane Games?

Duke-Won't Leave
Baylor-Won't Be asked
UVA- Won't Leave (Attached to Va Tech, and is in the same boat as Duke, top tier Academically, no way associating with an Inferior Academic Conference)
SMU is a good school I know their Law school is in Dallas- They won't be asked, not enough of a Fan base.

Remember it's not TV market, it's Views in the Market, So going and Getting TCU, Houston and SMU doesn't Fill up Texas because those schools don't have nearly that many fans in the state as it is.

Not trying to pump Tulane here but being from LA I think we could easily have another team in the NCAA landscape and we SHOULD>

Tulane offers a ton, obviously right now they dont but heck man - throw SEC on their name and they are bound to get better, people will come to see them play even if it is because of who they play which helps the city, economy of NOLA and Louisiana. Then you all know that the SEC travels well so a trip to NOLA for the other schools would be a given by their fans

Cant think of any of these programs as they currently are - you have to picture what they would become or could become with the help of the SEC basically. Not enough to be a powerhouse but enough to be a cupcake for the big dawgs, win their OOC games as they improve and then the market and academics. Academics will play a part in this at some point if the SEC goes to 16.
Potential is the word

I dont think UVA is attached. I think TCU would have been good.

State Legislature in Virginia went through A LOT to get Va Tech into the same conference as UVA. Ya this being 7 years ago but i think they are somewhat attached.

But it's not TV Market, it's market Views.
TCU may be DFW, but even in DFW most of those views during football season are for UT or A&M.

The SEC is not going to take a non BCS school with it's "intent" that it will grow.

They want something that has experience competing in BCS conferences with BCS markets.

And no well Vandy and others in the conference now isn't the answer. Because that was 70 years ago when Multi Billion Dollar TV Contracts wasn't even a thought.

I don't want to expand, but if we have to I say lets take in to 16 teams and be done with it for good:

Baylor, A&M, FSU, and Kansas
