Texas has really looked terrible through all of this. They are the most to blame for what's happening in the Big 12, but yet want to blame every other school. They are taking a major PR hit from across the nation.

Which is all the more amazing since ESPN has been preaching against A&M for the most part.

IMO, ESPN has taken a hit as well.

So it's OK for Texas to sign deals with ESPN without Big -12 approval
LHN had Big 12 approval

and seek admission to the Pac-12
Texas has never sought admission to the Pac-12. Last summer, the Pac-12 approached Texas, This summer, neither side has approached each other.

But when anyone else tries it, it may be prevented by court action?
If the legislature gets involved, it would stop any Texas university from leaving the Big 12.

Texas is on it's way to getting the snot knock out of them in court. The legislation may also be in legal hot water if it's giving preference to Texas.
The legislature will either let both A&M and Texas go OR force both to stay. There will be no preference.

How ironic would it be if Texas bolts the Big 12 before Texas A&M?
Won't happen

Dr. Drunkenstein - I don't think anyone is saying that t.u. is scrambling to find a conference home. PR wise they are scrambling to prevent themselves from looking terrible, and it's only making them look worse. For a PR-centric school, they're botching this one up pretty impressively.
The moment Texas accepted the massive ESPN deal, which any school would have accepted, the Horns immediately became the "bad guy."
quote:
Yeah, from what I've read, those schools had no idea what was coming and zero time to prepare when the SWC kicked the bed pan. DeLoss Dodds was his usual sneaky self, and it was a different era, media-wise.
A&M & Texas & Baylor & Tech acted in unison.
quote:
Texas is now jealous of A&M. They know the SEC is the move. They wish they were there.
The SEC was never "the move" for Texas because, right or wrong, our Cal-alum president is fixated on having Texas in a conference with Cal & Stanford.

See, that's the reason Texas needs to run an all-Texas conference. That way, in the event that a team wanted to leave, they couldn't.
Since the legislature could possibly undermine and not recognize equality in regard to regulations applying to ALL schools within the conference, why would any out-of-state school want to be a part? It's obvious what they're trying to do. It's called complete control. They can't dictate to out-of-state schools. That's probably why some chose to separate themselves from this mess.

Once again, stop buck passing. If you think the Big 12 schools wanted the LHN even though they voted for it, I have a bridge to sell you. It's trying to obfuscates the political power Texas holds in the conference.
But, really, I wanted to talk about this:
They most certainly didn't. All four ended up in the Big 12, but they were not moving in unison. the only two you could argue who did were Baylor and Tech, and really -- Tech was just piggybacking on Baylor's work.

That is absolutely false. You either don't know the facts or are in spin mode. Dodds was negotiating to move to the Big 8 after he and Dan Beebe fricked up the SWC, and the fact that the other three schools got shoehorned in was the result of state politics.
