Yeah. When it comes to national appeal, pretty much every SEC team (except maybe UF) ranks behind USC, Texas, OSU and Michigan. And ESPN has maintained very solid ratings televising mostly those teams.

So you are for Miami? They have "national appeal"?

no local support. they're poor
i'm for no expansion

I'm for UT, OU or no one.

i agree
adding FSU wouldn't be horrible, imho
if we're adding mediocre shite like VT and Missouri then slive can go frick himself
we better get a lot more fricking money PER TEAM if we add those shite programs

That national appeal was buried, along with their "swagga" after 40-3 in *05.
They're still under the bus wondering if it safe to come out.

C'mon....Slive has done a damn fine job for the SEC. Whatever deals he's working on, his track record is sound moving forward.

to break even with 2 teams, we have to get $34M/year more. that's a shite-ton of money

Yes they do and yes it is, that's why I believe Slive is moving carefully; regardless of the message board chatter. Adding to an already huge TV contract won't be as easy as some folks think.

i've been trying to tell people this
if ESPN is telling the SEC who to pick, that's one thing. that means a deal is in place
if we don't have a new deal with ESPN all but done RIGHT NOW slive is takin a huge gamble

Still a bit sore?
I was being serious. The bandwagoners don't wear those jackets anymore. FSU ones are pretty scarce, too.
You might gain a bit more regional viewers from FSU fans that absolutely won't watch a UF game, but another FL team doesn't bring a whole lot to the table imo.

that is due to program sliding, like what LSU is experiencing right now
1 game means nothing

FSU is a national program, an elite national program when winning. they also support their program locally
and i'd rather have more exposure in florida than in missouri

A homer I be I guess.
I never gave a rat's azz about ND, USC, UM, UM, FSU, OSU or whoever was the popular flavor at the time.
Maybe there's no one team from SEC with nat appeal because the SEC has stole limelight? By now the Nation expects the next MNC comes from SEC, just not sure which team. We've diluted ourselves, maybe?

part of it is style of play
part of it is our lack of metro areas to support programs
part of it is just history. ND, USC, UM, OSU, OU, etc have been big dogs for decades
the only 2 johnny come latelies are FSU and Miami, who fricking took over with a reckless, entertaining style in the 80s-90s
the SEC has bama, historically
UF is a national program who is in the same mold as FSU/UM. their exciting play and 2 titles make them #1 from the SEC right now

VT area > already covered North FL.
Don't you think FSU viewers would be 2nd picking of a tired pea patch? FSU lost a lot of fans to UF, even if they are bandwagoners.

i meant from an LSU perspective
VA is heavily recruited/raided by the SEC
hell, LSU almost pulled hunter from VA last year
percy harvin is from VA and UF got him

Even though adding FSU or Miami might bring in some more individual viewers, they don't bring new MARKETS to the table.
When looking at expanding the media footprint, they look at adding new cable markets that would turn into areas that would be added to the regional coverage and markets that would now get the "SEC Game of the Week".
All cable markets in Florida are already part of the SEC's regional cable market footprint because of the Gators.
Adding either of the 2 other Florida schools don't amount to any new cable markets, they may amount to a slight increase in share points, but not market numbers.
That's why schools from smaller overall markets - Virgina Tech, the Carolinas, Missouri - add more in regards to increasing market numbers. They would be new, unique markets.

why is the rose bowl the highest-ranked game every year other than the title game?
how can the rose bowl beat out the sugar, if the SEC has the #1 national appeal?
because Its the rose bowl and no one wants to watch a conference giant play a mid-tier conference team?
