re: What does A&m bring to the SEC

A&M makes perfect sense as an SEC team. If you're asking what they bring to the SEC, you're probably under the age of 30 and have never experieneced the LSU/A&M rivalry before. They have just as rabid a fanbase as we do and honestly, if the SEC were to add A&M and drop Vandy, I'd be tickled pink.
And for the love of God, why do people insist on bringing up academics in a discussion of sports conference alignment? Not that A&M is a glorified high school because if you think so you're ignorant.

Where this 'A&M has money' concept comes from is beyond me. It certainly isn't the truth.
They have some big money backers. No question about it. However, the reality is that winning begets donations, and A&M hasn't been winning recently. If they can win a few games, the dollars will start pouring in.
A&M has just as many big money alumni as any other major university, and they love A&M.

big fanbase that will travel, big stadium, moronic male cheerleaders that are fun to mock, to name a few reasons.

I get that winning = $$$$
But there is a misconception out there that the bazillion dollar A&M endowment is somehow tied into athletics. It's not.
A&M is currently on welfare. They are panhandling on corners, having their parents co-sign for a cellphone and borrowing money from anyone that will lend a hand.
Kyle Field is covered in bat shite. That's not a joke. It's literally covered in bat shite. Getting rid of the bats and pressure washing the stadium is an actual budget conflict for them. Hell, they can't even afford to light the letters on Kyle Field.
They have tradition. They have a large alumni. They do not have a dime to show for either.

Regardless of their current athletic and economic situation, A&M would fit into the SEC perfectly.
They are a flagship school in their state, large enrollment with a huge alumni base, large stadium, tons of tradition and a fan base who truly love their team.
The LSU / A&M games were my favorite games to go to in the 90s at either stadium. Go watch Miami play a game in SunLife stadium and you immediately see why they don't fit.

Lets clarify one thing. A&M is NOT BROKE!
I posted this in another thread, but the long and short of that story is that Rober Gates loaned the athletic Department 16 million bucks at 0% INTEREST. There was no timetable for repayment, and was treated as more of a gift with the understanding that SOME day, they would pay it back.
btw the load was to help with the addition of our indoor track facilities and Practice facilities that are some of the best, if not THE best in the nation.
When Elsa murano, the president after gates, but before loftin, was being shown the door, her last act of rebelion was to call the AD on the loan.
its being payed back in 1.6 million dollar a year increments.

These will always be in Fayetteville, Ar, and it's not even close.

I guess you havent visited College Statio Lately.
And they may be one 1a and 1b, but to say its not even close makes you look like an idiot.

I'm familiar with your track facilities, and no, they aren't close.
Indoor/Outdoor, take your pick.
Just because A&M finally had something nicer than its Big 12 counterparts, or Texas, doesn't mean it's the best in the nation.
Aggy is going to have its head spinning when it sees how far the Big 12 was behind in the facilities race.

Frog,
Most of the SEC will welcome you guys with open arms. Then, we'll commence to kicking your arse.
