re: Texas to the Big Ten would almost assuredly mean more losses...

Tech's rise and aggy coming alive has seriously handicapped the horns.
They are living on their pre WWII records when they claim scoreboard.

What in the world are you talking about? Texas has owned Texas Tech for years.
Taking out the Federal Express/Jackie Sherrill/probation years of 1985-1994, the Aggies have sucked Texas' hind tit since WWII, easily.
Aggies are 5-10 against Texas since the formation of the Big 12. Tech is 4-11.
A team doesn't become the second-winningest program of all time victory-wise by being sporadically good.

A team becomes the second winningnest program of all time by playing pitiful teams like TCU, SMU, OSU, UH, BU, Arkansas, OSU, Tulane and even A&M.
Your winning percentage would not be near as high had you been in a better conference. Notice that once texas got in a conference with OU and Nebraska, your conference titles didn't come quite so easy. You went from winning 39% of the titles to 21% of the titles.
I would argue that texas has been underachieving since 1893. Didn't win its first national championship until 1963 and only has 4. Texas is a regional powerhouse but historically just hasn't done enough to put it on the same level as Notre Dame, Michigan, Alabama.

03 OU lost to LSU
04 OU lost to USC(I know forfeit but game was played)
05 Texas won NC
Doesn't seem like the power house conference
Since then the SEC has dominated. I'll admit I think the Big 12 is the second toughest conference. But the comparison between first and second here is not even close.

Your ignorance is showing. OSU? Tulane? Where do you get this crap?
By the way, why cut Oklahoma and Nebraska so much slack, when they played Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, a pitiful Colorado... for years and years and years.
Michigan and Ohio State dominated the rest of the Big 10, another "Big 2" conference.
USC? Washington State and the rest of Pac8-10-12 patsies say "hi."
We get it. The only good historical teams are those who've won while in the SEC

Two of theses things are not like the others....

"Texas v. Ohio St.
A battle of inflated egos. "
Classic!
I went to watch the Saints game tonight at a sports bar in Houston. My Auburn fan friend and I both noticed an unusually large number of Ags sporting their gear around the bar. Looks like they're really stoked for the move.
We also noticed how every single one of them was wearing cargo shorts. Can you explain this? Are khaki cargos the jorts of college station?

Are birkenstocks and organic t shirts the Sperry's and polos of Austin?
Definitely a PAC cultural fit.

I think you need to edit your post again, it still doesn't make sense.

I have to disagree with Chicken...it's about style of play.
If Texas can have a decent quarterback, they can handle the Big Ten with what i think Malcolm Brown will become...which is a steady, solid runner.
Also, hoops I think Texas does fine. That conference is no better than the Big 12. The Big 12 had Kansas, and defensive toughness with A&M. Mizzou was good under Anderson, and Martin has the Wildcats playing damn good ball.
What is in the Big Ten? Michigan State...yes. And Texas has fared well against them in non-conference tilts. Wisconsin? yes...Texas is familiar with them with recent successes also. Illinois, Northwestern, and Indiana need some work. I like what Beilein has done with Michigan, as well as Painter at Purdue and Matta at OSU. Penn State really screwed up their coaching issue IMO.
All in all...is the Big Ten scary? I don't think so...it is defensive, fundamnetal basketball. It's very similar to their football mentality. And if Barnes gets Texas runnin' and gunnin' again, they would be fine in the Big Ten.
And what about baseball? The Horns could win 50 routinely playing those guys.

FWIW, and I'm not sure that this is what you were getting at, but Texas is closer to B1G schools than PAC#

wtf do you even know what teams were in the SWC?
Tulane? OSU twice?

quote:not so sure about that. In the PAC-16 east, Texas would be relatively close to Oklahoma and OSU, Texas tech, Colorado and the Arizona schools.

In the big ten, they would be nearest to Nebraska and Iowa.
Am I missing something?
