Short term alignment could depend on TCU

Only chance for the BigE is TCU completing the move. They certainly have an out with the conference changes.
If they go Big12 that lowers them to 5 & gives WVU a green light to move on. Rutgers & UConn want out applying to ACC. Louisville & USF are the remaining choices.
The reported 6 year TV rights deal in the Big12 kills that option.
This year's end game could lie in Ft.Worth.

if they get a Big 12 offer, they should take it for a number of reasons

I doubt ut would want a smaller texas school to spank them every year

Well, Texas is the reason that TCU didn't make the Big 12 the first go around...and Texas is the reason for the current problems with the Big 12...I am sure there are those at TCU that would love to avoid Texas as much as possible.

It's not happening. Texas doesn't want another school from Texas replacing A&M. Neinas said that there was "significant resistance from existing members" in regards to adding a team from the state of Texas in an interview with Leach and Arute on Friday.

If BYU says NO, what are their choices?
Maybe it's time for them to return to the old regional SWC outline. Interim commissioner fits the mold.

I don't see TCU getting an invite there because Texas doesn't want them.
Same with Houston, same with SMU. Looks like the big least is going under, so that would free up West Virginia and/or South Florida, which are the two most attractive members not named TCU there.
I don't think Boise would get an invite either for the same reason. If OU is smart they'll get shut of that conference as fast as they can.

it has be theorized that FSU does not want either of them in the ACC and want it to stay at 14, probably because of diminishing returns on a new tv deal.
if that is the case, i cant imagine the acc going ahead with further expansion and risk pissing FSU off enough to look elsewhere.

You know what would be hilarious?
Big East raids CUSA and takes Memphis, UAB, East Carolina, Southern Miss, Tulane and Houston.
Rutgers and UConn to the ACC to create the first superconference (with the original eight becoming one division and the fans cheer the return of the double round robin in MBB).
West Virginia to the SEC as the 14th team.
The Big East now has exactly the same members as CUSA did in 2004.

Biggest problem with Boise is location. If BYU/Air Force isn't in the equation, you have one school way out there by itself.

I do not want West Virginia in the SEC. I hate their 3 second offense.

The new Big 12 commissioner revealed the previously unknown fact that originally the Big 8 (which he was the commissioner of) wanted the entire SWC, not just the 4 that came. According to him, Texas said no. That would've been the first super-conference. The man was a visionary.

Interesting. I had a Kansas fan on my floor freshman year when the Big Eight/SWC merger was being put together. He said the SWC had been begging for a merger for a while and the Big Eight kept sending them away whimpering.
Sounded like homerism, but it did make sense that they would prefer just taking the top half of the SEC instead of the whole group.

Boom! Have to pay 5mil, but do not have to wait the 27 months.
Down to 5 the BigE loses AQ status.
Dominos will fall quickly.
