It is mostly ridiculous but the idea of the SEC adding Rutgers would be kinda awesome

Cultural fit? Absolutely not
Good program? No, not really

But just the notion of SEC teams planting a flag in New Jersey and New York probably makes Slive do an evil villain laugh

Don't believe everything you read. I haven't seen anything coming from Missouri or the SEC that makes me think Missouri to the SEC is off track. It's possible that Missouri might get the Big XII to agree to a smaller exit fee (Missouri law may not provide them as much protection from a sovereign immunity standpoint as Texas law does to A&M) if they stick around for a year, in order to give the Big XII time to find a replacement (something they need to do so as not to have Fox void their new cable deal, which starts next year). Until you hear that Missouri has signed up for the assignment of rights to the Big XII, then I think the smart money is on Missouri leaving (and they are NOT going to the Big Ten).

Edit for TYPO, above.

You might be right; that's why I'm in favor of inviting WVU...right now.

I think they are playing footsie with the B1G and the B1G is being amazingly quiet in the face of all this conference expansion fever. That tells me they are secretly talking with several biggies. Mizzou is a natural for their expansion map, and it could be they're about to land at least one other big name to carry their number to 14 or 16. It is no secret that the Mizzou powers that be want the B1G more than the SEC. Why bring that kind of lukewarm presence into the SEC - I don't care how many cable subscribers they bring with them. They are not an SEC state or fanbase. Not! Not! Not!

What leads you to believe that they want the Big Ten after getting humiliated by them last summer?

They are holding out for VA TECH or Fla State. East Coast money and viewers. WVU might take some of that region but probably not enough. Hell they might even look at a Maryland or UVA.

I said:

Then you said:

We are talking about two different "they" entities. Mine is intended to be Mizzou, as in:
quote:

I think they (Mizzou) are playing footsie...

You seem to be talking about they as the SEC. Apples and oranges in this conversation.

Their arrogance and the fact that you can't humiliate them. Mizzou has made themselves the laughing stock during the course of 2 years when it comes to expansion.
The Governor announces they're headed to the Big Ten without an invite and then there's a leak from the administration that the SEC "is all that is left".
You can't insult someone who is too arrogant, or stupid, to know their self-worth doesn't match reality.

I don't want WVU in the SEC. Apparently the SEC already said "no", so eff 'em. Let them have 2-3 Missouri, because in reality the SEC and its fans just want another doormat.

I hope to god if WVU gets an invite, they say screw off.

I don't blame you for feeling that way. I have no way of knowing if the SEC ever said "we don't want you". Can you provide any proof of that? Has there ever been an official announcement to that affect? I don't believe a damn thing that's been circulated by ESPN, or the other "anonymous sources" crap being thrown against the wall...but that's just me.

I certainly don't like the way this whole situation has been handled, but you can bet the farm that if invited WVU will accept. WVU should have and would have gotten the invite from day 1 if the bean counters weren't running this show...again, that's just me talking.

I am sick to death of the indecision or foot-dragging on Mizzou's part. Sure changing conferences is a big thing, but either you're in or you're out. The thing is - ya' gonna fish, or cut bait? It has the Big XII and the SEC and probably what's left of the Big East (at least) hog-tied. Because of their painfully indecisive stance on changing conferences, I, for one, wish Slive would state publicly tomorrow that whether the SEC expands further or not, Missouri is out of the running and will not be given further consideration for membership in the SEC.

You're right - It's time to piss on the fire and call the dogs!

Mizzou has the SEC, Big 12 and Big 10 fricked up like Hogan's goat!

Slive should announce that the "SEC ship has sailed!"

I don't think Missouri really wants in the SEC. They would be a doormat FAR more than WVU would ever be. WVU could compete right away somewhat in football and at the top in basketball.

I think they're using the SEC's interest trying to garner an invite from the BIG TEN, or at the least a more favorable BIG XII offer.

The fans really need to stop with this "academics" and "market" crap. This is just parroting what you're reading and hearing off of ESPiN.

i think mizzou and the sec are mutually using one another to add pressure on the big 10 and vt/fsu/unc, respectively. otherwise, slive is an idiot and should be fired if he truly wants mizzou in the sec.

Between Mizzou and WVU I like the mountaineers. If we could get an FSU or a clemson I would be cool with that too. I think clemson is a great match but having another tiger in the SEC doesn't sit right with me. As for the academics, it's nonsense. Market share is definitely a big part of it. Personally I think it is more important to add a competitive program in a s$all market than a mediocre program in a larger market.

I hope this is the case. if so it would be hilarious to see the fans reaction. They would feel like Slive yanked the carpet out from under them.
