I really question if the SEC or anyone else is interested in OU w/out Texas. You're getting a state with little TV value and a team that will beat most of your teams.
If OU does end up in the SEC, where does that leave Texas? If the SEC picks up A&M and OU, the SEC doesn't need Texas. Oklahoma might win the SEC West 1 or 2 out of every 3-4 years, but they won't run it like they do the Big 12 South.

In the alternate reality where OU joins the SEC, Bama and Aubarn move to tge Eastern division. Competition in the west would be Oklahoma and LSU. So more like every other year.

This is a HUGE win for Texas.
How can every possible alternative for Texas being eliminated be a good thing?
Texas has two choices: 1. Keep the Big12 together or 2. Go independent
Texas has backed itself into a corner IMO.

don't know why the oklahoma schools and mizzou would wanna stay in the big12. they are just gonna have to go through this next year.

Without the LHN....yes. But the regents will retain the LHN at all costs. It has nothing to do with my preferences, this is just reality.

Texas will stay in a joke Big12 or go indy before giving up the LHN.

We would need some competive balance so I don't think Florida, Bama, Auburn, Georgia, and UT would all be in the same division. But who knows.

We finally have a reason to be thankful for the PAC.

UT could be wiped off the map and some moronic alum will say it's a HUGE win for Texas. Those buildings were old anyway!
Really, the UT arrogance schtick is old. The reason nobody wants UT is that ya'll are drama drag queens.

Good article from Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle.
Well, this is sure going to be an awkward little meeting between the Longhorns and Sooners, and it may not save the Big 12 anyway

This isn't a schtick or arrogance.
The Texas regents have valued the LHN above all else. The Big 12 is the best home for the LN as is. OU staying makes the Big 12 exponentially more viable. The Pac rejecting OU/Okie State helps to solidfy, for the moment, the Big 12. It isn't arrogance to call this a win for Texas.
Could things change - of course. But until they do, this is the best possible outcome for Texas.

Without competition, you don't have an athletic department, or the LHN. Without a conference affiliation, your choices for competition are greatly limited.
Your overall athletic department would most likely suffer as an independent. I am guessing your regents have figured this out.
Therefore, for UT, conference affiliation is valued more than the LHN...

Texas will stay in a joke Big12 if it has to in order to retain the LHN.

Even if OU & OSU both go away?

Its going to be kind of hard to file suit against A&M when you have zero damages on a TI claim.

No one is saying that the LHN is going away...you even admit that it would need to get tweaked in order to get into the Big Ten.
I think we can all agree that it is getting tweaked no matter what...

People forget that more than anything this gives UT and the LHN exactly what they wanted and need... Time.
Killing the LHN now or even reducing the control of it hurts the entire vision of what ESPN and UT are trying to do. Waiting 5 years (or more likely till 2014) allows the LHN to go from an millstone in its current emerging form to a profit center to be emulated by other schools. If that happens, having the network goes from a huge negative to a huge plus on conference expansion.
The only real way to really clip the wings of UT in all of this is force them to restructure or outright kill the LHN in its infancy. Once it is on it is fully established the power they can wield with it will be enormous.

I still can't wait for all of the cable & dish deals to be finalized and for all of you to be paying the University of Texas money every month. It's coming!

Looks like this Pac12 humiliation has caused the OU president to, again, grab his ankles.

So OU gets to propose that they get to take the biggest hit on revenue sharing to get Texas in line...
Sounds like OU just realized they screwed up. This hurts OU way more than anyone else really. They do not have the secondary revenue generation streams that UT has and really this was the one lone financial advantage OU consistently had over UT the last decade.
And people wonder why UT wins out in all of these things vs. the other members of the conference. OU essential shot their mouth off, got put in their place by the Pac-12 and now comes back and has to propose a PR win that kills the lone financial advantage they have had over UT. Instead of keeping quite and not making sweeping grand public statements they had to get in the spot light.
