I agree to a degree. I think Mike Sherman was an excellent choice to help pick the program back up. One, he's an aggie himself, so his heart is in it. I think he's a great coach, too. Fran ruined the poor QB (don't remember his name) that was supposed to be the #1 High School QB the year he came in, by making them a run and gun west coast offense. Thankfully for that kid, the pro scouts still saw something in him and he's on the Cowboys practice squad now.

Aside from that, I do think that their team is headed in the right direction.

Another thing to consider out of this whole scenario, is this...it was lose/lose for the Aggies. If they had bolted to the SEC, there would have been a large number of alumni who would have bitched and moaned about them "running away from UT" and ruining the rivalry.

Maybe some of the alumni would have complained but the majority is overwhelmingly in favor of a move to the SEC. I didn't see this as a lose/lose for A&M. I think NOT coming to the SEC IS the loss here.

I believe UT realized that if A&M moved to the SEC they would eventually become a stronger player in recruiting and could possibly be on an even playing field in terms of $$$$. With A&M being in a stronger conference, it's possible to see that they would supplant UT as the #1 player in the Texas market.

If UT were as powerful as "they" say they are...they wouldn't have cared one way or the other and would have maintained the rivalry game. Instead they choose to shy away from competition.

I think the upside was all in A&M's favor.

I disagree. The customers/fans are on every board raising total hell about leaving. I don't have the time to pull up a link but there have been some large polls from A&M fans and 85% to 90% of their fan base wanted in the SEC.

Keep in mind people chime in most when they are bitching about something. I was basing my opinion on what I have heard speaking with my Aggie friends.

I think this is what made this such a bad deal for A&M. The fans were so in favor of the SEC that a critical mass has formed and a backlash will inevitably occur. The loss of support from backers could well be in the millions of dollars, especially when you consider a drop in attendance at football games. On the other hand, a move to the SEC would have energized the fan base. They would have filled the stands for a 5-7, a 4-8, or even a 3-9 team. Most aggies I've heard from have said they expected to get pounded pretty hard their first couple of years in the SEC.

Yes, but these would have been UT alumni.

The only people who would be bitching would be those cowards over at Texas. They no way in hell wanted Texas A&M in the SEC for fear of A&M stealing some of their top prized recruits and being the better team. Texas has only won one national championship in 39 years. Hell, just in the past 7 years the SEC has won 5 NC's. Texas A&M fans know their leaders are idiots for not getting into the SEC and I'd be pissed as hell if I was them too!

Unfortunately Gub Goodhair has set himself up to become the next President that TAMU gets. That has always been an aspiration of his since he was in the Corps. Well unless he got elected POTUS, that was also one of his dreams.

Ball Gravy, not sure who you are or what class you are from....but this class of 78, 81, 83 Old Ag thanks you for the info you are passing along. I can only hope you and some of the other deep pocket alum can make it clear that $0 will go to TAMU until the SEC is a reality.

First off, I can't see anyone with the name Gus Goodhair getting elected President.

Second, not only hold out donations but start chanting S.E.C. at all your home football games next season.

I have never before seen a fan base so completely let down by it's AD and president as Texas A&M was. Or more angry about it.
