Longhorn Network pushing ahead with high school highlights
quote:

Dave Brown, LHN vice president for programming and acquisitions, has made a pitch to four Texas television affiliates in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston, offering to trade two-minute, LHN-produced clips in exchange for the station’s high school football game highlights. LHN sent out a clip of Longhorns quarterback Garrett Gilbert as a leader, after he was benched. ESPN said Houston station KTRK agreed, but San Antonio’s KSAT turned down the LHN offer. “We were really insulted that (the Longhorn Network might think) we’d just roll over for them.”

I can't imagine how anyone left in the Bovine 9 thinks that Dodds is actually going to compromise on the LHN with their special committee. Texas doesn't compromise, they bully. It's the only way they know how to operate.

I have lost so much respect for OU during this process. They put up with this bullshite because being Texas' bitch is still an easier route to a BCS bowl than the SEC.

Pretty much.

I'd love to see an LSU network try to convince WAFB to scrap the weekly "Sportsline" HS football show in order to play YouTube clips of various teams from the state without ID'ing players or scores.

If Texas' lips are moving, they are lying. At least they are consistent about it.

We won't show high school games! Well, maybe one. No, two. And throw in some highlights, too.

Who the hell would want to watch all that UT programming?

I am thinking that some Big 12-2-1 schools are thinking long and hard about selling their souls to UT.

This issue could potentially destroy the Big 12. The agreement that "saved them" was that the conference would form a special committee to negotiate with Texas as to what the LHN would and would not be allowed to air. In exchange, all schools would agree to give their tier 1 and tier 2 television to the conference for six years, effectively making it impossible for any of them to leave. Well, no one has signed the agreement yet, and Texas is showing that it is not going to negotiate in any meaningful way.

I am shocked, SHOCKED, that t.u. and ESPN have decided to push the envelope once a semblance of conference stability was re-established. Just like when the Big 12 was "saved" last year.
