re: Is there any way for Texas to spin this mess as a positive?

This Dodds quote isn't so much spin as it is an outright lie. On the ACC:
“They were interested in us, but it’s not going to happen.”
The ACC said no to the LHN, as did the Big Ten and Pac 12.

I always wonder what would have been had Vince Young not gone to Texas. His success has had far reaching money making ventures for Texas.

best way for UT to spin this is to Stink palm someone else and yell, "look they have poo on em!"

Texas is 75-37-5 all-time against Texas A&M, including 42-19-2 on Thanksgiving Day.
Texas is 46-13-1 all-time against Texas A&M in Austin as of 11-25-10.
Texas holds a 17-9-0 all time record against the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Texas holds a 311-136-15 all time record against the Big 12 Conference.
Texas holds a 6-4-1 all time record against the Big East Conference.
Texas holds a 22-11-0 all time record against the Big 10 Conference.
Texas holds a 157-51-8 all time record against the Conference USA.
Texas holds a 5-10-0 all time record against the Division 1A Independents.
Texas holds a 1-0-0 all time record against the Mid-American Conference.
Texas holds a 68-23-1 all time record against the Mountain West Conference.
Texas holds a 34-19-0 all time record against the Pacific-10 Conference.
Texas holds a 95-46-4 all time record against the Southeastern Conference.
Texas holds a 14-0-0 all time record against the Sun Belt Conference.
Texas holds a 9-0-0 all time record against the Western Athletic Conference.
Pretty damn salty, for a "greedy" Texas team.
If another team was giving the chance to have their own network and was offered 300mil for 20 years. I doubt it would have been declined, or pretty hard to turn your back on it. Making more money " greed".
. I love me some tigers, also love me some longhorns. I see how the boards have been tilled and hoed by a bunch a aggies. Couldn't stand them in the 12 , really ? Now the SEC. Once an aggie always an aggie! Spin to a positive?
I really think UT could give a f@$&! At what an aggie thinks, as for national perspective, UT will be fine. When the time comes for the " superconfrences". All will be fine with UT, OU!

Txsbigeasy1,
For most of that time, A&M was a small, all military school, and there were no limits on scholarships. Texas would sign anyone that they thought might help another school if they could. Look at the last 25 or 30 years if you want to get a little more realistic.

They look greedy and like they don't give a shite about their conference mates
A&M, OU, Mizzou......everyone voted for the Big 12's rev sharing process and for schools to retain their 3rd tier rights (just like the SEC and ACC) which led to the LHN. Don't call Texas greedy because of how the other schools voted - that makes no sense.

They lose their biggest rival and admit to being afraid to schedule them OOC
A&M is the biggest rival of Texas? No
Texas is afraid of A&M? No
quote:
can't they just agree to not have high school games on their network, take like 2-3 mill less a year from ESPN (if high school games are even worth that much) and make everyone happy?
Is this a joke? LHN has never shown and will never show HS football or HS football highlights. Also, the conference is going to start sharing Tier 1 & Tier 2 TV rights equally and this means an annual cut to OU and Texas of 2 to 4 million dollars.
Elleshoe, you are the worst informed person on this board, and that is saying something.

All I know is that their home schedule next year looks pathetic.
Isn't the SEC trying to add someone on the Texas home schedule for next season?

Before that A&M won 10 out of 11 from Texas with the only loss being by 1 point and in Austin
cough.......major NCAA violations.......cheating........cough

I find it funny when A&M brings this up because it won its only title under these conditions.

From the Texas athletic director:
Perhaps Texas should change its burnt orange to yellow.
quote:
“In my mind, ten is the perfect conference. You have a clear path to the national championship game without stumbling in a [conference] championship game.”

No matter how it is spun, Texas is looking like the bad, or at least the baddest, guy - especially from a national perspective.
Ultimately, this cannot be denied and perception becomes reality.

you may choose to believe it's not the case, but your delusions about your university run so far and vast into the realm of preposterous, I highly doubt you will see UT for what it is
Posted on 9/22/11 at 2:44 pm to SwatMitchell
If someone wants to be pissed off about this deal, dont blame UT, you need to point a finger at the commissioner of the Big 12 for allowing it to happen. If Deloss Dodds had turned this deal down "for the good of the Big 12 conference" he would have been an idiot. Would you - as an LSU fan- have turned down something like this because you think it might have a negative effect on Ole Miss or Alabama?

As an LSU fan, we couldn't get a deal like this because of our conference. Schools in other BCS conferences, excluding the Big 12, probably can't get a deal like that either because of conference contracts.
That's the problem with the Big 12. Everything isn't equal. But that's not Texas's fault. The other members are letting Texas have its cake and eat it too though.
But because of Texas's deal, the Big 12 will probably eventually fall apart. I'm not against Texas having their own deal. But to keep it, if the other schools finally grow a backbone, Texas will probably be forced to go independent or make some huge concessions.
What is clear at the moment is that Texas and Dodds wants an AQ conference they can control and they've got that with the Big 12.
