Only because we are new money in the SEC, is this how it was when we entered? My personal opinion is that Mizzou is our best option, factoring in everything. Trust me, it pains me to say that.

No Florida schools.
Not West Virginia after the LSU game there.
Virginia Tech is about equal to Mizzou but has said no interest.

Arkansas had a football tradition that Mizzou does not when we entered. It is possible...stress possible... with an influx of competition and money that Mizzou will eventually be competitive? It took us a long time...

Mizzou has more to offer as far as TV market than Arkansas or SCar did when they joined.

Adding Mizzou is a TV market strategy.

Adding Arky/USC was a "Get a championship game" strategy.

i hate to tell you this, but y'all got in when texas and texas a&m got hosed by the texas legislature and removed their state funding if they went to the sec. this was led by the prominent baylor grad, sue baily huchinson, another baylor scum bag. then, usce got in when fsu's bobby bowden pouted and informed the sec fsu was in if and only if they received a disproportionated amount of the revenues split. the sec wisely told him no and he took his ball and went to the acc who more than happily agreed to paying fsu a larger share of revenues than any other school then in that conference. i have always felt that bobby bowden operated in HIS best interests instead of fsu's. he further solidifyed that opinion late in his career when he began to bring down the very program he built; all to beat Jo Pa in all time career victories. he was (and probably still is) an egomaniac that doesn't give a shite about fsu. he had way too much power. i am very glad lsu has had the policies that we have over the years. no football coach has been the ad (i know skip was) and hopefully will not be because of the enormous power they weild. that's why bill arnsbarger left; once again an example of a football coach that thought he was better than the university. in summary, ark and usce were 3rd and 4th choices; sorry. and by the way, i'm glad it worked out that way as texas and fsu (under bowden) would have been poor sec partners and would have clashed big time in their respective power grabs.

You are completely and totally wrong on so many points. But the only one I'll point out is this:

Arkansas was not a "3rd or 4th" choice.

4-5 teams were invited. SEC stated publicly at the time that they wanted up to 14-16 teams

Only 2 jumped. Your Arkansas hatred is coming along nicely, though.

would you care to be a little more specific? broyles was the happiest guy in the nation when the texas legislature shot down ut and a&m. and i do not hate arkansas; you obviously are not familiar with many of my posts and you obviously didn't read where i said i was glad that arky got in and not texas.

I never got excited about playing mizzou and always viewed them as one of the schools we had nothing in common with.

I am still not excited about them coming to the SEC but if they are the best option then I guess I am onboard.

my thoughts exactly. i really feel that a southern school would be a better fit even if the $$ aren't as good. but it appears that the ACC has locked up their members rather nicely.

"sue baily huchinson" is actually Kay Bailey Hutchison, and she is well known for having been a cheerleader at Texas, not Baylor.

Yeah it's crazy how much a $20 million dollar buy-out impacts a school's decision to leave.

Granddad, I think you meant Ann Richards, who is a Baylor alum and was governor of Texas from 1983 to 1991.

So Arkansas was only invited after the legislature blocked UT and A&M, eh?

Arkansas Joins SEC; There May Be More : Colleges: Miami, Texas, Florida State, South Carolina, Texas A&M also might wind up in Southeastern Conference.

And btw, the Texas legislature didn't get involved until several years after Arkansas left. Their involvement was not letting UT and A&M join the Big XII without also including Baylor.

There was nothing contingent about Arkansas' offer to join the SEC.

Texas and Texas A&M's decision to stay in the SWC didn't impact Arkansas' offer either way.

What you posted has nothing to do with the reality of how it went down.

Specific enough?
