frick it and stays at 12 teams? It would be interesting if there were two big arse conferences (Pac 10 and maybe Big 10), and then the SEC stayed the same.

i'd be a huge fan of slive if he did that. i'm not feeling the conference expansion at all, it could possibly ruin a very good thing. when you read all these scnenarios from fans here it's like they want the NFL system in CFB.

Doubtful considering how money hungry Slive is. That and the fact the SEC including Slive himself has already pretty much came out and stated if all of this were to go down the SEC would expand as well.

i don't think so honestly
slive doesn't want to get left in the dust of these so called "mega-conferences"

Doubtful. Seems like its inevitable that we'll expand somehow. I would just prefer its nothing too major, add one team per division, A&M and Va Tech or FSU and call it.

I don't see why we would be left out the dust. We still have a huge market and would have an auto-BCS invite every year.

i just mean like heading towards this mythical four megaconference playoff or whatever

This would piss me off because none of these schools really add anything. I mean, what are they good at? Va Tech is decent at football, FSU is mediocre, and A&M is bad. Also I don't really think they would do all that much to increase our revenues.

Yeah but this wouldn't happen for another 10 years down the road if it ever did. But I know you aren't the spokesman for Slive.

those champs could play each other in the Rose Bowl, and the winner could play the SEC champ in the Championship Game (a game separate from the current BCS bowls). That leaves 3 more BCS games, and the Cotton Bowl will now be the SEC championship game (sorry Atlanta).
I don't think the SEC wants to split its money up anymore that it already is. I'm not sure they can renegotiate the tv deal at this point. They just inked that deal.
I think they are going to have to extend the regular season, if all of these super conferences are made.

They would add to our tv revenues, Texas A&M is a big school with a large alumni group and this would help us get into the Texas TV markets.
Va Tech spreads the TV markets into Virginia.
This is a big deal to Slive, might not be to us but it is to him.
They're all solid programs too (A&M is down but has potential), not elite maybe but they give the Conference more quality depth top to bottom.

also if A&M joins it really helps SEC teams get more exposure to recruits in Texas. One of the big reasons why UT doesn't want A&M joining the SEC.

I think it all comes down to the dollar. Sure the TV deals might be freshly inked now but they have to be renewed at somepoint and adding teams that are not included to the deal now might void out or push for a new contract sooner than later. Also if it's going down now you can't take the risk of waiting until later while other conferences out there are on the agenda snapping up the heavyweights that will help their conferences/agendas (money). It was going to happen eventually, Too many people want a playoff system and this is the best way as things sit now.
Shake everything up and move from there. If the SEC were to sit back and say the Big Ten and Pac 10 grab up the biggest draws and say they are successful and the SEC falls behind staying pat where do they look then? The teams that were left behind would not do much for the SEC later down the road and the teams that would are not likely to still be available IMO. I say if it's going to happen get in on it now while it's fresh.

the sec needs espn, espn does not need the sec, especially with the new pac-10. the sec has to be careful if they want to renegotiate, if at all possible. you piss espn off and you're left out in the cold while espn turns to the newly formed pac 14 or 16.

I hear ya, but the SEC has been talking about teams no one is after. The East Coast teams. Do you think the Pac 10/ Big 10 can start scooping up ACC/ Big East teams? Me neither.
Some of those teams would possibly join the SEC, but I think they should merge forming another mega conference. Big East + ACC. A TWENTY TEAM CONFERENCE!!! The winner could play the MWC champ in the Fiesta bowl (Boise plays well there).

SEC NETWORK BABY!!! Southerners and southern restaurants and southern bars and southern homes and southern cell phones would fund the shite out of that. I was surprised how well the Big 10 network has done.

No but I believe rumors have been flying that the Big 10 is looking to add to their conference with potentials from the East in attempts to entice ND to join with them. Also if the Pac 10 expands and the Big 10 expands the teams left behind from the former 12 have to go somewhere. With all the conferences expanding and trying to get stronger I would think the ACC and Big East would either join together or lose and add people as well. Like I was saying if the Pac and Big 10's start expanding which it appears so other conferences will have no choice but follow suit or get left behind.
The SEC will follow suit, You start having super conferences you have no choice but to look for strength in numbers by expanding as well. You risk losing money down the road if you don't. It's all about money, If you are no longer a big attraction because something new and more exciting is out there what's to keep the TV deals?
