If LSU sacrifices tradition for the SEC, then Bama and UT should too.

No offense, but if Bama and Tennessee fans and admins are going to bitch about their little rivalry being such a precious tradition, then the SEC should find a way to enforce LSU getting at least one night SEC game at home on an annual basis.
Both are traditions. Both WERE traditions for over 75 years, yet only one apparently is worthy according to Bamatards and Voltards.
Love the hypocrisy in this conference sometimes.

Take that up with the networks. Doesn't really have anything to do with the sec.

Yes it does. The league shouldn't be focusing on traditions for some teams but not others. Again, LSU sacrificed a 75+ year old tradition for the conference, yet all we'll here is Bama and Tennessee fans whining about giving up their annual game for the sake of SEC money.
Beautiful hypocrisy.

How did the SEC screw LSU out of this tradition?
Posted on 10/18/11 at 8:29 pm to Geaux2002
No one game is more important than any other with respect to the conference as a whole. I could care less if Bama or UT play every year or every 3rd year. Even Nebraska and Oklahoma gave up their yearly game when the Big 12 was formed. I have never liked the permanent cross divison game.

Where is the hypocrisy? Alabama and Tennessee each have a vote and they're exercising their rights to work towards a decision that they want. When it comes to conference expansion (or any other means of ending the permanent cross-divisional opponents) Alabama has one vote, the same as every other school in the conference. It takes 9 votes to add a member. So don't just be pissy at Alabama and Tennessee; there are 2 other schools out there keeping Mizzou out.
Presumably LSU exercised its rights during the TV contract negotiations and agreed with the contract that was signed. Blame LSU for not protecting its own tradition at the negotiating table. Either they did not realize that the contract terms allowed for the possibility that there could be a year where LSU did not have a SEC night game, or they were unsuccessful in convincing the other 11 ADs and school presidents of the value of that tradition.
Personally, I think the night SEC games at Tiger Stadium is a great tradition, and I'm sorry that there won't be one this year. However, it is not up to Alabama or Tennessee to look out for LSU's traditions. In the same vein, it's not up to LSU or any other school to protect our tradition, and they do have the votes to add Mizzou and put them in the West. So what's the hold up? It's not like Bama and Tennessee are going to leave the conference if the game ends, so we don't really have any leverage here if the other schools vote to put Mizzou in the west.
What I'm trying to say is, if you want to add Mizzoue to the west or otherwise end permanent cross-divisional opponents, the last parties you should blame are Alabama and Tennessee who are merely acting in their own self-interest (and what individual or university doesn't?), because by themselves they don't have the votes to kill such a proposal. Look at the other schools who are voting with them and try to understand their motivations.

How is playing a night game a tradition? Doesn't every school do this? Just asking.
Posted on 10/18/11 at 8:36 pm to dapado33
Michigan played their first every night game at home this year.....LSU schedules every game at home for 7 pm until otherwise changed by TV, so yes, playing at night is a tradition.

the two issues are not related.
LSU night games are about TV. either LSU says no thanks to being the CBS SEC game of the week or they play in the day.
I am glad its on CBS. great exposure. they are on so much, its nearly as good as Notre Dame having its own TV network, NBC.
it will make it possible to recruit further from B.R. mom can see her boy play, even if she is in St Louis or KC. CBS is everywhere.

LSU has no choice due to contracts current set up.

According to Alleva, LSU can't refuse CBS. It's built into the contract the SEC signed.

Actually no, Georgia prefers to play their games during the day because a lot of fans drive in from Savannah and other areas and it gives them time to drive back home. At least that's what I've been told here in Atlanta. Ohio State and Michigan have nearly always scheduled day games except for the occasional night game expressly for television. A good friend from Ohio State says that noon kickoffs are the tradition for them. LSU has long had the tradition of playing at night at home. LSU probably has tried to negotiate this with the other SEC schools for tv contracts but if you're out voted, there is no choice.
I don't see how allowing LSU to play at night at home and refuse CBS would be a problem for other schools. That means the other schools get that spot that so many want and LSU gets to keep its tradition of all day tailgating and a great night time atmosphere.

I definitely wish ESPN and other networks would go back to televising LSU night games like in 1936.

LSU playing day games has nothing to do with conference realignment. It's the price we have to pay for being a team people want to watch.

It's the price we pay for being in the new SEC with the television contracts. Bama and Tennessee can pay the price of not playing annually anymore for the same betterment of the conference. It's pretty simple.

I'm all for tradition. You might have a harder time getting your way though, because you're fighting contracts with CBS whereas Alabama and Tennessee are taking part in a vote.

Great, another "no night games" thread. Hasn't this topic already been exhausted in the Rant?

For real!
Guys, we get better exposure at 2:30... get over it. It's better for the program. It might be great for tailgating, but no one gives a frick except for idiots fans that want to get fricking stupid drunk before every game.
edit: oh and frick bama and Tenn
