If we get conferences expanding to 14 and 16 teams and each conference has a championship game, I can't see any need for a playoff. The conference championship games would be a defacto playoff week with the two best mega-conference champions squaring off in the NC game.

I think it might promote a playoff, which would suck if it were a 4 team playoff (3 mega conf. champs + 1 non mega school). But if it were an 8 team playoff it would be fantastic.
