David Boren and OU screwed up royally

They only screwed up if they are unwilling to follow thru. I think the SEC would take the OU/OSU package with MO. The SEC won't have the academic snobbery that is a component of the snub by the PAC. If they have no intention of leaving even if their demands aren't met, then it is a massive frick up because OK's prestige will take a massive hit because they will clearly be seen as TX's inferior.

Still, even the most rabid Longhorn hater has to admit the comedy in all of this is beyond measure

Not quite comedy. Your school's superiority complex (which put's my school's fanbase to shame) has literally fricked up the entire landscape of college football. Conferences are now having to raid other conferences who are now dying a slow painful death they don't deserve. There will be teams that were previously in good situations tossed out on their asses to be picked up by the likes of the WAC or Mountain West or God forbid, Conference USA.

I don't think there is any comedy to it at all.

keeping together the Big12 is merely a cease fire, and not the end. it provides everybody some time to better evaluate their options and do some secret courting based on package deals. UTx will only be expediting their plans for the LHN in hopes to be a sustainable independent before the Big12 finally implodes. if Boren got his hopes shattered by the Pac, he may be receptive to the SEC. along w/ OSU, the SEC will be able to make a very compelling case to lure the 16th school. it could be Missouri, Virginia Tech or Florida State.

That's the rest of the story. There are two reasons why OU hasn't been linked much to the SEC: (1) OSU is not attractive to the SEC as a tag tema partner--one Oklahoma school might be acceptable, but a second would merely be another mouth to feed; and, (2) Boren has rather openly dismissed the SEC as a possibility due to OU's academic aspirations--even if OU could backtrack, Boren couldn't do it without unbelievable humiliation.

Suffice it to say that the guy with the bowtie in College Station has played this a lot smoother than the former Governor and Senator in Norman. I take no joy in saying that, as I have no ill feelings whatsoever toward Oklahoma.

well, let's see. The SEC needs at least one team. And OU is tired of UT's crap and the PAC-12 isn't adding. Hmmmmm

All you TU fans. Soon your conference will be limp, no potency. Neb.-gone, A&M-leaving, OU-is tired of your crap and wants to leave, Colorado just said screw you went to PAC-10 (12), WTF THE PAC 10(12) REALLY. The only Preeminent team there in the past decade is USC Read the writing on the wall, no not the one about your sister and your home PH#. your conference sucks and everyone wants to bolt.

i think your #2 was the main reason their wasn't much talk of OU to the SEC. OU was an obvious candidate to come w/ A&M, and i believe the SEC would take OSU if needed. and now that Boren realizes that the California schools view them as them Clampett's coming to town, he may entertain the SEC as an option.

Boren does have to feel pretty rejected. he publicly got the Board approval to join but didn't get the invite.
