I know it is probably not likely, but since the NCAA does not run football (crown a champion or sanction bowls), could football run on it's own? EXAMPLE - Texas football in the PAC-10, rest of UT sports stay in BIG 12?
Not sure if I am asking the question clearly.

It is theoretically possible (Notre Dame is in the Big East in all sports except football), and it does happen in cases where a conference does not sponsor a sport (Kentucky is in CUSA I believe for men's soccer which is not an SEC-sponsored sport) but most likely won't happen in this case. Whatever conference t.u. ends up in they will be in for all sports in which the conference participates.
