Conference Championship Game

I haven't spent a lot of time on this board so apologies if Germans. Whack if so. But I was curious if getting another team to come over is a necessity for keeping a championship game? Reason I ask is when I would hear talk about other conferences expanding, they always mentioned getting an even number of teams in the conference in order to have a championship. Since we already have one, is that a moot point? Do we still keep it if one division has an extra team?
