reflecting much of what I heard last nite and now being reported (
) this morning by good ole Chip Brown
key points:
There was some sort of meeting Monday night
the remaining scraps of the Big12 considering extending the "granting of rights" (Tier I and Tier II) from 6 years to 13 years - the full extent of the Fox TV contract
Oklahoma and Mizzou were adamant that on top of (a) no conference games & (b) no high school games would be allowed for broadcast on the LHN (or any university-specific network) that also no broadcasting of any high school highlights or scores or news stories at all.
It should be noted that (a)the NCAA has no current ruling prohibiting such things -they have said no high school games- and also (b)the LHN has not to date broadcast anything of the sort
As of this morning, no word from Texas at all as to a response to this latest scenario, however it's been suggested that this was the sticking point that created the impetus for Mizzou's actions yesterday. I think it's pretty superficial, but I guess Mizzou needed something to spark the meeting.

13 years? What happens next time the sips do something you don't like? You'll have no leverage because you're handcuffed to the league for a long time, who would agree to that?

The key is that TX is handcuffed to the league also. It should be 20+ yrs. TX won't be able to just do what it wants.
