Heres the paragraph that jumped out at me:
"Five schools got together, and we tried to develop a business plan like everything else," said (Lew) Perkins, who did not disclose financial details of the offer. He said paying to remain aligned with Texas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M is no different from a school giving a pay raise to a coach who wins a national championship and gets other job offers"
Uh, Lew, it couldnt be more different!
Youre not competing with your head coach youre paying! ...not to mention if youve won the NC youll have a ton more money to pay him with...
Plus, that money youre giving Texas means they can build first class athletic facilities (like they dont already have them) while your university cant afford to keep up because youre too busy paying Texas' bills!
Advertising, recruiting, ect all take a big hit for these smaller universities.
Lew, keep telling yourself its no different so you can sleep tonight.

God, that's just sad. What a miserable excuse for a conference. The weak sisters are paying a bully their lunch money and telling themselves that they're friends...
All you have to do is read that article to know conclusively that the SEC is the best conference, hands down.

its not that bad of an analogy, those schools would be stuck in a mid major conference if not for the deal they struck. So they take an unequal share, they;ll still get more being in the Big 12 than the MWC.

what would their options be? If LSU, Bama, AU, UF, UGA and UT threaten to leave the SEC what the hell do you think Vandy and Miss State would do?

There is a bit of difference and don't kid yourself. One team is calling the shots in that conference. No one team calls the shots in the SEC.
