If they're going to stoop to that level to add more schools, Cajun Field may not be the Superdome but the program has much more potential than Tulane and is improving atm.

Not that I agree with re OP, but what control would LSU have over ULL going to the Big12?

Word: The Shorthorns and the Gooners have absolutely no interest in Tulane or ULL as far as what they bring to the table.

Both would be absolute jokes in a BCS conference.

Texas knows that.

But bottom line:

Playing a game every other year in the Superdome in NOLA>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>playing in Lafayette:

When it comes to Texas and Oklahoma trying to gain a foothold into Louisiana recruiting.

While Tulane would logically be the first choice for the Big 12 to get a foothold in Louisiana, one could argue for LaTech as second over ULL.

Tech could work with Shreveport to get enhancements to Independence Stadium to accomodate marquis games like OU and Texas. Plus the Techsters could even host a game in the Superdome annually. Over time their fan base would grow with more sidewalk alumni to the point of being a Mississippi State-type program and eventually increase their home stadium.

They certainly have more recognition nationally than the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

What's to stop the Cajuns from doing this exact thing? Just saying that is not an advantage for picking Tech over any other instate team (excluding Tulane who already uses it).

This only has to do with the fact that Hawaii and Boise State have had national recognition and happened to play against LA Tech. LA Tech has just as much national recognition on their own as ULL.

No soup for you!

New Orleans
Superdome, BIG12 champ games possible, national champ game site
NOLA Arena, BIG12 champ games possible, Final Fours
Tourism
Music
night life
destination city for those around the world

vs

Lafayette, LA

Sorry, it has much more to do with potential, markets, money, recruiting (ULL does not really get them "in" a new recruiting market). AAU status, etc.

It is not only about sports.

And I like Lafayette, but no man. Never even been to a bowl game and people are not traveling from the other schools (big12 travels well) to spend a weekend in Lafayette. New Orleans is a place college kids, 20's/30's folks and retired wealthy folks want to visit. New Orleans is the new "Americas City" after Katrina.

Actualy nothing, it would be a matter of who could make the better sales pitch. Having lived outside of LA, I'v noticed LaTech does have a better national brand than ULL, though both are weak compared to most AQ schools. "UL" is known as "UL" only within a 20 mile radius of Lafayette and the occasional announcer/reporter they can get to feel sorry for them.

I'm no fan of LaTech by any means, but they do have a record of beating AQ teams such as Cal, Bama (twice), Okie State (with Les as coach?), Michigan State, etc. They have some geographic separation that imo helps them.

<<<----BTW, should a school that spent $10K for this suit for its mascot be taken seriously?

ULL may get to jump to Conference USA at best from the Sun Belt but even that is a reach.

Big 12-
