Another thing to keep in mind, basketball and baseball travel will be terrible.
Basketball sans divisions will mean much more travel. Now with the two possible additions and the dropping of the divisions many long midweek road trips will be standard.

Yeah whats the deal on bball scheduling now? Has this been release already for 2011-12?

Honestly, I hope the 14th team is Missouri. I think Mizzou is the best fit in terms of what they bring to the table and culture. Missouri could be added to the East division with minimal disruption of existing SEC rivalries as the state of Missouri borders with 2 SEC East states, Tennessee and Kentucky. Yes, the distance to SC and Florida is longer than if Missouri was in the West but it's better than continuing to be a member of a dysfunctional conference. Having said this, I do hope that the Big 12 is able to hang together is some form because I like the traditional/regional conferences. The Big 12 should add Boise and TCU which would include the 2 best teams in the lesser conferences. TCU going to the collapsing Big East just doesn't make sense.

I just think they will be added in the West. And that's a big maybe on whether or not this is true.

Interesting thought on them going to the East division. That would solve a lot of scheduling issues for sure. Have their perm rival as A&M.

Also agree on TCU to Big 12, how about BYU as a member?

I completely understand the TV market issue. Again, the interest in Mizzou athletics is lukewarm, at best, in the St Louis market and damn near non-existent nationwide. And how much interest do you think there's going to be in the Missouri brand when they get pile-driven in the SEC? Do you think the casual viewer in Everytown, USA is going to tune in to see an exciting Mizzou/Kentucky gridiron classic?
And, like I said before, if the St Louis market was so ga-ga over Missouri football, they would not still be in the backwaters of the college football world.
All this to add the St Louis market?

Mizzou doesn't own the St. Louis Market. That is dominated by other sports. Mainly baseball and NFL football. College football seems to be the bastard stepchild.

Missouri joining the SEC will make them upgrade their facilities soon. They have some very wealthy alumni. I think they will be competitive in a few years. Potential is there IMO

Only team that "owns" St. Louis is the Cards. Everything else(Blues, Rams) needs to win for people to really pay attention. College Football is big here, the Mizzou/Illinois game sold out every time they played at Dome, don't doubt that.

SOURCE

This works for two reasons.

(1) Mizzou to the East means an easy scheduling fix. They become our permanent cross-division rival, and everything else stays the status quo.
(2) If/When conference realignment Armageddon comes, Mizzou is easily shifted to the West, and Slive goes after two schools from the East Coast (VTech, NC State?) to complete the 16 team mega conference. Again, classic rivalries can be maintained.

The only wild card would be a 4x4 conference pod system.

SEC West - A&M, LSU, Ark, Mizzou
SEC Central - Ole Miss, Miss State, Aubrun, Bama
SEC North - Vandy, Tennessee, Kentucky, VTech
SEC East - Georgia, Florida, NC State, USC

KC and STL are both pretty cool towns for a side trip if it makes you feel better.

STL check out Budweiser HQ

KC go to Boulevard Brewing Co. Boulie Wheat FTW

Just moved my fam up here to the KC area from Little Rock. Personally, I'd love to see the Misery Tigers added so that the KC Star and the electronic media would be forced to devote some time the SEC.

Also, while StL is probably more of a Misery town than KC, there are still a boat load of Misery folks here. Their game with Kansas, when played in Arrowhead, is a huge sellout. Obviously the proximity to Lawrence plays a part, but still, Misery is well represented in the KC area

the days of F$U's relevance are long gone

You are not gonna be happy in the upcoming years if you believe this

F$U has their best team in ages, they play in a horrible conference, and they STILL fail in big games. As a Hog fan, I know a flop in big games when I see one. I do not think their trajectory is upward. It's flat, at best. They just don't have the big name in Florida they used to have. Florida is the bully on the block. South Florida is now capable of stealing some of F$U's recruits. And as for Jimbo...I'm not sold. Good coach. Not great. The days of F$U running roughshod over that conference are long gone.

Mizzou is a fricking joke. I can't believe this is the best Slive can do.
