But if it was always Petersen, why wouldn't the announcement have already been made? Absolutely nothing negative could come from announcing him.
Could very well be, though. I lean toward Aranda or Rhule. At this point, anyone else not named Petersen, Saban, Belichick or Sean Payton would be a total letdown.

I am not sure why Petersen's name is being brought up.He said he wasn't interested in the USC job last month and the USC media said he wasn't interested in getting back into coaching at this time,so they will move on to someone else.

I’d take Petersen. I don’t want Riley at this point. Petersen is a more complete coach anyway.

The reason O is gone has more to do with recruiting.
Contact period starts on Nov. 28th (with in home visits) and only so many coaches are allowed to recruit under NCAA rules.
Basically, a newly hired head coach would not be able to recruit for LSU if O was still the head coach thru the bowl game; therefore O is gone/terminated as of the end of the regular season (Nov. 27th).
Also the reason for the interim head coach for the bowl game.
This would tend to indicate that a hire has been made or will "officially" be made on the 28th allowing the new HC to contact recruits on behalf of LSU.
