Why rush the hire after losing out on top 2 candidates?

Most programs don't start until the season is over. Ed should have been the fifth choice. Why not go back to the drawing board and seriously consider the others such as Fedora, Fuente, Gundy, etc? You could them hire Ed if those guys don't make the cut. It sucks no matter how you spin it but we could have done better than O.
