Assuming Saban/Spurrier/Ditka/Vince Lombardi don't work out...

The guy fits the mold of prior LSU head coaching hires: success at a lower-tier school, good recruiter, can be had for a relatively inexpensive contract with lots of incentives.

Pardon me if the choice isn't sensationalistic enough ;)

Tell me why you feel that way, please. Apart from his 14 straight winning seasons, I don't know anything about him. He seems to have done a lot with very little.

not a "driven" coach. Also is a jerk big time to everyone who deals with him. Hes a decent coach but not what we need.

Hell all it takes is to go 6-5 and there is your winning season. USM had the 118th ranked schedule and went 7-5. They got skull fricked at home by an winless Rice team then got beat at home by an awful Memphis team. C-USA could possibly be the worst football conference.

The last time we took a Southern Miss coach (Curley Hallman) and we know how that turned out!

Disasterists move and the worst years of LSU football ever. I say no to JB!

We are bigger, better, and smart enough not to hire another Curley Hallman again. nuff said

True, re: winning seasons. That he did it at USM has to be considered quite an accomplishment, yes?

I'm just trying to think outside the box is all.

thats funny... you tell me why we should hire him? umm maybe because we can pay him under 500,000... and he can kill the program... and sell under 20,000 season tickets....and lose recruits like colt brennan.. the hawaii's qb..shall i go on......

Like I said, I was just thinking out loud. On a national level, he seems to have a good reputation as a coach. 14 straight winning seasons at a program like USM is nothing to sneeze at. I'm not saying he's my top choice or anything (that's Jeff Jagodzinski) but, as I pointed out, he seems to fit the bill as far as history is concerned.

i went to high school in Hattiesburg and my family still lives their.

This guy is a huge jerk. The whole administration disliked him, as well as a lot of the community.

He had great defenses with a lot of those winning seasons, and the token thing to do is say that Nix really got him all that talent on defense in the first place.

Bower was run out of town.

The winning seasons are great. But its all relative. They didnt even win the CUSA every season. Just a bunch of mediocrity.

We would be WAY, WAY worse off with Bower than with Miles.

Jeff Bower was a name that floated around, BRIEFLY, around the time of the Saban hiring, I believe.

After the Hallman debacle, I don't think LSU will ever look to USM to fill a coaching vacancy again.
